Ingredient Review

Our review of Castor & Pollux PRISTINE Grain-Free Grass-Fed Beef begins with a detailed look at the food’s ingredients.

The first ingredient is Beef. Beef is meat from any cattle breed. In pet food, beef can be fresh, freeze-dried, dehydrated, ground, or finely processed into beef meal.

The second ingredient is Beef Broth. Beef broth is the liquid that remains after beef has been cooked. The beef broth in pet food isn’t a major source of nutrients however it does add flavor and aroma to appeal to your companion.

The third ingredient is Water Sufficient. In pet food, the term water sufficient typically refers to the amount of water that is needed to process the rest of the ingredients.

The fourth ingredient is Chicken. Chicken is meat from the domesticated bird of the same name. In pet food, chicken is used as a primary protein source.

The fifth ingredient is Organic Pea Protein. Organic pea protein comes from peas that have been grown without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. It is a good source of amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. While the pea protein in pet food isn’t normally a primary protein source, it is easy to digest and it’s also a good source of fiber.

When we analyzed the ingredients in Castor & Pollux PRISTINE Grain-Free Grass-Fed Beef, we found that most of the protein is derived from meat based sources.

Nutritional Analysis

Your adult dog needs a balance of macro and micronutrients to thrive. A food formulated for adult maintenance or all life stages is made to meet these needs. While there can be a lot of variation in actual calorie density, adult dog foods are generally intended to provide for basic calorie needs of the average active dog. In addition to satisfying their energy needs, these foods provide the protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, and other nutrients your adult dog needs to survive. Again, not all adult foods are the same, so you may have to search around for the right fit for your dog.
