Ingredient Review
Our review of Evanger's Organics Turkey & Butternut Squash Dinner Canned Cat Food begins with a detailed look at the food’s ingredients.
The first ingredient is Organic Turkey. Organic turkey comes from turkeys that have been raised without chemicals or antibiotics. It is an easily digested meat that’s relatively low in fat. In pet food, organic turkey might be the primary protein source or it may be part of a blend made with different proteins.
The second ingredient is Organic Chicken Broth. Organic chicken broth is made by boiling organic chicken meat, skin, and bones to obtain nutrients including fat, vitamins, and minerals. Organic chicken broth can only be made with chickens raised without chemicals and antibiotics. In pet food, organic chicken broth increases moisture and improves flavor.
The third ingredient is Organic Butternut Squash. Organic butternut squash is a type of winter squash with bright orange flesh and a flavor similar to that of pumpkin, that has been grown without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides.. When added to pet food, organic butternut squash serves as an excellent source of vitamins including A, C, and E, as well as minerals including magnesium, zinc, and calcium.
The fourth ingredient is Organic Guar Gum. Organic guar gum is a thickening agent that is derived from guar beans grown without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. In pet food, organic guar gum helps food keep its shape and it doubles as a source of fiber. Since organic guar gum can slow digestion, it’s sometimes found in foods designed to help your pet lose weight.
The fifth ingredient is Taurine. Taurine is an essential amino acid that is only present in animal protein. Some pets (including dogs) produce their own taurine, but cats do not. Supplemental taurine in pet food helps your companion’s entire body function properly, with important roles in brain, kidney, and heart health.
When we analyzed the ingredients in Evanger's Organics Turkey & Butternut Squash Dinner Canned Cat Food, we found that most of the protein is derived from meat based sources.
