Ingredient Review

Our review of Pedigree Small Dog Complete Nutrition Roasted Chicken, Rice & Vegetable Flavor Small Breed Dry Dog Food begins with a detailed look at the food’s ingredients.

The first ingredient is Ground Whole Grain Corn. Ground whole grain corn is made with cooked and/or dried kernels from any corn species. In pet food, ground whole grain corn can be a filler as well as source of inexpensive protein, carbohydrates, and fiber.

The second ingredient is Chicken By-Product Meal source Of Glucosamine. When you see “chicken by-product meal source of glucosamine” in pet products, it means that the dried, ground chicken contains cartilage and soluble proteins that contribute joint-supporting glucosamine to your companion’s meals.

The third ingredient is Chondroitin Sulfate. Chondroitin sulfate is a natural anti-inflammatory agent that is often combined with glucosamine. The chondroitin sulfate in pet food, treats, and supplements is often intended to support healthy joint function, particularly in aging companion animals.

The fourth ingredient is Corn Gluten Meal. Corn gluten meal is produced as a byproduct from the manufacture of corn syrup and other sweeteners made with corn. It contains no wheat gluten. The corn gluten meal in pet food is a source of inexpensive protein, but it has high levels of cysteine, which have been linked to the formation of urinary stones.

The fifth ingredient is Animal Fat source Of Omega.

When we analyzed the ingredients in Pedigree Small Dog Complete Nutrition Roasted Chicken, Rice & Vegetable Flavor Small Breed Dry Dog Food, we found that most of the protein is derived from meat based sources.

Nutritional Analysis

Your adult dog needs a balance of macro and micronutrients to thrive. A food formulated for adult maintenance or all life stages is made to meet these needs. While there can be a lot of variation in actual calorie density, adult dog foods are generally intended to provide for basic calorie needs of the average active dog. In addition to satisfying their energy needs, these foods provide the protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, and other nutrients your adult dog needs to survive. Again, not all adult foods are the same, so you may have to search around for the right fit for your dog.
